The following information should help in solving some of the difficulties with the Pioneer DR-U124X in Windows 95
Under certain conditions, Windows 95 will not recognize the Pioneer DR-UA124x ATAPI CD-ROM drive during boot-up. The problem occurs when attempting to install the DR-UA124x drive into a computer that is already using Windows 95. If Windows 95 is installed into a computer already using a DR-UA124x, the boot-up problem should not occur.
At this time, Windows 95 does not support the DR-UA124x, so the simple, one-time solution described below needs to be implemented. Pioneer's CD-ROM ATAPI driver, ATAPI_CD.SYS, must be added to the system's CONFIG.SYS file and MSCDEX.EXE (ver 2.24 or higher) must be executed in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Note: Some multimedia kit's have renamed the device driver from: ATAPI_CD.SYS to PIONEER.SYS
1. The following line must be added in the CONFIG.SYS
DEVICE=C:\PIONEER\ATAPI_CD /D:MSCD000 /S:xx
Example:
DEVICE=C:\PIONEER\ATAPI_CD.SYS /D:MSCD000 /S:3
or
DEVICE=C:\DIAMOND\PIONEER.SYS /D:MSCD000 /S:3
Note:
Directory where "ATAPT_CD.SYS" may be different, if so change path to
correct directory path.
Where xx value depends on the DR-UA124x mode (master or slave) and
which IDE port is connected.
2. The following line must be in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND|MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000
After making the above changes, the system needs to be rebooted and Windows 95 should recognize and access data on the Pioneer's DR-UA124x CD-ROM Drive
